Most of what we know about Saint Mark the Evangelist comes from the New Testament.

Saint Mark, believed to be the “John Mark” referred to in the Acts of Apostles, contributed largely to the evangelization of the early Church and is the author of the Gospel of Mark.

Tradition regards him as the first Bishop of Alexandria. He was martyred in Alexandria after being dragged through the streets during the Christian persecutions.

Saint Mark is the patron of notaries, Venice, and Barristers.
