Saint Matthew Le Van Gam
c. 1813-1847

Saint Matthew Le Van Gam was born in Go Cong, Vietnam. Coming from a devout Catholic family, Matthew originally went off to study for the priesthood.

However, since he was the oldest among his brothers and sisters, family issues forced him to return home. From there, Matthew married and had four children. Two were tragically murdered for their Catholic beliefs.

During this traumatic and dark situation, Matthew cheated on his wife. Having realized his mistake, he sought forgiveness from his wife and spent the rest of his days smuggling priests during the severe persecutions during this time.

He was eventually caught and beheaded, but now reigns in heaven with the glorious crown of martyrdom.
