Saint Justus of Lyon, Bishop
390
~ +++++++ ~
Known for his meekness and wisdom, Bishop Justus led Lyon with great devotion and participated in many important church councils.
However, a tragic incident pushed Justus to resign. In the city streets, an insane man killed several people, and then fled into a church for sanctuary. Justus had a choice: to grant the man sanctuary in the church until the authorities arrived or to release the man to the whims of the mob and the magistrates.
A misguided advisor convinced Justus to release the murderer, and he was immediately killed by the mob outside. Racked with guilt, Justus resigned and became a hermit to better serve God.
Saint Justus of Lyon, pray for us!

Prayer
Thanks be to thee, my Lord Jesus Christ,
for all the benefits thou hast given me,
for all the pains and insults thou hast borne for me.
O most merciful redeemer, friend and brother,
may I know thee more clearly,
love thee more dearly,
and follow thee more nearly, day by day.
Amen.
